Silly Boy

Leyton is a goofball.  Completely, totally silly.  And that's one of my favorite things about him!  He has this wonderful belly laugh that he's had since we heard that first sweet giggle from him 3 years ago.  It's deep in his belly, and it's infectious.  And I can't help but laugh when he laughs.  Here's just some of his antics from the last few weeks...

This is what I found after I asked him to take off his shorts and underwear and put his swimsuit on earlier this week.  Shorts - down around the ankles.  Underwear - still on.  Trashcan on his head - check.

Daddy's shoes have the extra toe room he's looking for.

And have I mentioned what a BIG BOY he is?!?  We moved him to his big boy bed finally last weekend (yeah, I know he's 3 months past 3.  I procrastinated. :) ), and he's so excited.  Since he's my last baby, it was honestly bittersweet for me.  I'm so thrilled to see him grow, but so sad to realize he's not my itty-bitty guy any longer...

Summer already?

It seems the years just move faster and faster, the older my kids get.  I swear we just started Kindergarten.  How is it I'm now the proud momma of a first grader and a three year old?!?  Doesn't that officially make me old?  Anywho, both boys had a great year.  We were blessed with a wonderful teacher for Britton, as well as some great kids in class with him.  Britton made some new friends, learned a lot, and really wasn't all that ready for school to end!  I hope he always maintains that enthusiasm for learning.  :)  Leyton had 4 fabulous teachers as well, and as always, wonderful kids in his classes.  He still loves school, loves learning new things, and playing with his friends each day.  He's very excited to move to the "big kid" wing of the preschool (closer to Gigi, always a bonus), and most importantly, play on the BIG playground (it's the little things around here).

Mrs. LeBlanc and Mrs. Hopkins

Britton and Mrs. Jinks...  Poor Mrs. Jinks hurt her ankle terribly just a few days before the end of school, and spent the last 3 days on crutches...  with kindergarteners!  She's a brave woman...

Britton and life-long friend, Bella (and I'm so upset I didn't notice her eyes were closed until I got home!  Still a great picture of her though - such a beautiful smile!).  We were so thrilled to have her in the SAME class this year!  I can't believe how much they've grown, even just since August!  They both are "old hats" at this elementary school thing these days!

Also a few pics from the end of year bash at JWE...  "Where the West Goes Wild" was the theme, and they had several wild animals for the kids to touch (scare me to DEATH).  Britton was absolutely fascinated with them!

I'm just not real trusting of the rubberband around his snout...

Beach Bums

I wanted to get these pictures up before we were months past this little vacation - but I'm not feeling all that wordy today...  Short story - fun, busy, exhausting trip to Rockport/Port Aransas Texas with PJ's immediate family and grandparents; overall, we had a fabulous time.

Yep, that's me.  In a swimsuit, loving the ocean waves with BK.  Don't look too close please - it's scary. :)

Britton and Great-grandma having some sort of battle with some random toy in the souvenir shop - I love that the boys are getting so close to their great-grandparents!

Aunt Becky and Sweet Ley-Ley.  Both boys love Aunt Becky and miss her very much!  He's covering his mouth because he said the water was "spicy."

Mr. Brave in the ocean - I couldn't take my eyes off this kid - he made me very nervous, even though the water was very shallow...

The only family pic we took - and PJ and I agree it's terrible of the two of us, but great of the boys.  :)

PJ and his sisters - Belinda and Becky

Cousin Alex giving me the salute?!?

They were in LOVE with this huge shark at a souvenir shop...

Leyton and Grandma at the pier -

This is Uncle AJ - Becky's husband.  Both boys think he is the coolest thing ever; Britton was pretty much attached to AJ all weekend.  This was some game they invented called "Banana Boat" - AJ was a great sport.  ;)  And as a side note, not sure what the heck happened to the coloring on this picture - but everyone seems to have a lovely blue skin tone...

Monkey Boys

This week was Parent-Observation Day at Gymnastics.  Even though I get to watch each week, I'm always amazed by how far they've come over the year, b/c yes, I admit it.  I do sit in the waiting room and play on my phone or read a magazine.  It's some of the only "me" time I get.

Leyton's quite the little monkey and always has been.  I was really impressed with his hand-eye coordination and balance.  He was able to balance in ways the other kids couldn't, and I think has come a long way since August - both physically and emotionally!  He doesn't cry when I drop him off each week anymore, and really seems to enjoy gymnastics.

Laughing through a backbend.  Love that smile!

This picture is just cool because he's balancing all on his own.  Miss Megan (Leyton's teacher) was amazed he could do it by himself!

Love this video of Britton doing a back-handspring with the "two finger" spot!  I was probably 8 before I was doing these by myself, so he's way ahead of me!  (And as the very proud mama, I have to add he was the ONLY ONE in his class doing this.  And he's one of the younger kids in his class!)

Quite the headstand king these days...

Britton and Mr. T, his coach.  Mr. T was also one of my very favorite coaches growing up and taught me so very much.  I LOVE that Britton now has him!

I'm a big boy

I'm somewhat in denial that my sweet BABY, Leyton Eliot, turned three on Saturday.  He's all about "I'm a big boy," but I'm telling myself he's still my baby.  Maybe when he's 18 he can call himself a big boy.  Maybe.  We celebrated with close friends and family on Friday evening, then just hung out on Saturday as a family.  On his special day (we let the kids tell us what they want to do on their big day), Leyton requested Tin Star for his special dinner (we go there almost every Saturday night, and he wasn't interested in deviating from the norm), and a trip to the park.  Unfortunately it was really cold and somewhat misty, so we didn't think the park was a good plan, but promised to make a trip as soon as it warmed up.  The boys had a great time playing with new birthday gifts, riding bikes (yes, we brought them in the house after PJ cleaned the wheels), and just took it easy.  He's so excited to be "free" (as he says it, he means "three") and tells us several times a day "I'm a big boy now!"

A little about Leyton at three: He is a superstar talker now.  We carry on full conversations, and he says things that make us laugh almost constantly.  Grammatically, he's a bit off, but we love that at this age.  For example, instead of "where did you go Momma?" it's "where you went Momma?"  He's a pretty picky eater, even more so maybe than his Daddy (which is hard to believe).  He has several staples, and no matter what it is, he will say he doesn't like it if it isn't one of those (Goldfish, strawberries, apples, PB&J, pizza, and a few others).  Generally, if we can get him to try it, he likes it, but not always.  He's a good sleeper at night, although he's all but given up his nap during the day.  We still enforce rest time each afternoon, but he's quick to tell me he's not interested in sleeping.  :)  His best friends (outside of Britton of course) are Whit (a friend from school) and Mark Thomas.  Every time he talks about friends, Mark and Whit are first on the list.  He loves soccer (mores so even than BK), and enjoys running around like a monkey at gymnastics.  We still fight separation anxiety a bit with Leyton, but he's quick to cheer up and has a great time almost anywhere.  He talks a lot about bridges, and whether we will go "across the bridge" no matter where we go.  Not sure where this obsession comes from, but it's mentioned EVERY time we are in the car.  He's getting really good at recognizing directions, what we are close to, and can even point out "OSU" on the hospital, our bank name (on branches we never go to), and of course, every Starbucks under the sun.  :)

The birthday boy was NOT interested in standing still for pictures!  This was the best I got...  Doesn't he look so grown up?

Ella has some serious bounce...

Some of the party guests - impatiently awaiting cupcakes!

Sweet Alex and Chase!  Corie and I have been friends for more than 20 years - I can't believe we are now the parents...

The big kids - two of BK's very best friends, Bella and Trenton.  And this day happened to be T-Bird's 7th birthday!  He was a good sport and willing to share his day with Leyton.  Their birthdays are just a day apart.  :)

Cupcakes happen to be on the list of foods Leyton LIKES.  A lot.  :)

Sweet Harison and Carisa!  Love this little guy!

Best buds, Mark and Leyton, getting crazy in the teeter-totter with Uncle John.  They LOVED this.

Best Buds -

We love our littlest man more than words.  He's such a special little guy!  Happy Birthday Sweet Leyton Eliot!

Garcia Happenings...

I cannot believe I haven't posted in 3 months.  I don't have a good excuse, so I'm not even going to try...   I have nothing overly exciting to report, but a few fun memories I just want to remember - Leyton is such the talker now and always has us laughing.  Britton continues to amaze us with that incredible memory of his, and reminds us daily that his memory is better than ours.

Some of my recent favorites:

We recently gave Britton his first big "chore" around the house.  He's responsible for collecting all the little trashcans in the house, bringing them to the kitchen and emptying them, then putting new trash bags in each can and returning it to it's home.  PJ helps him tie up the big bag and take it out the big trash in the garage.  We've always enforced the picking up your toys, keeping your room picked up, dishes to the sink, normal stuff, but this was a CHORE.  For which he now earns an allowance.  :)  2 quarters a week for his piggy bank - which is a huge deal to me since I have an obsession with quarters.  Not sure why, but I LOVE quarters.  I don't know - don't ask.  So as he was taking care of his job last week, he made the following remark:

"WHY do I have to have the grossest job in the house? Mom, this is SO disgusting!"  What's sad is that this was my first chore when I was little, and I remember feeling the same way.  Grossed out...  Like Mommy, like BK.  :)

Britton to PJ:

BK - "Dad, I want to play t-ball this year."
PJ - Ok, it might be a bit late to get on a team this Spring, but if you really want to, we can try."
BK - "Yeah, I really want to.  All my friends are playing.  But...  I only want to hit the ball, I don't want to catch it."
PJ - ...  Well, that might be a problem.  :)

Leyton to my Mom at her house last Friday:

L - "Gigi, where do you get juice?"
G - "At the grocery store..."
L - "Which store?"
G - "Target or Walmart."
L - "Can you go to Target and buy some juice for my house?"  (I don't buy juice - we drink water or milk at home for the most part - juice is for special occasions.  He knows this, and I thought it was hysterical he was trying to get someone else to buy it for me)

Leyton to me on Monday:

L - "Mommy, can I have another cookie?"
M- "No, Leyton, one is enough."
L - "No is a timeout word.  Do you want to go to timeout Mommy?"

Some of Leyton's other favorite phrases as of late -

"No way Jose" (He says this one a ton - and he's serious about it when he says it.  It's hard not to laugh)
"WHAT?!?"  This one is said with some serious force when he doesn't get the answer he wants - it's like "did-you-really-just-say-that-to-me?"
"It's not tasty" (we hear this one anytime he doesn't want to eat whatever he's been served)
"I'm a big boy.  But I'm a big boy that wears diapers."  (He's really fighting potty-training suddenly)

This picture is just typical Leyton...  This was in the car one afternoon waiting for Britton to get out of school.  He didn't like the sun shining in his eyes, so he covered himself entirely in blankets and stayed that way for a solid 15 minutes.

Leyton was one sick little boy 2 weeks ago, and this was the morning he got sick.  He literally started running a fever in route to school, so PJ took him to his office until I could pick him up.  All the employees have Mickey Mouse ears at PJ's work, and Leyton demands to wear PJ's every time he's there - apparently no matter how poorly he feels.  Poor little guy - the face says it all, but I can't help but laugh at the ears.

This last one is one of my favorite pictures ever, even though it's blurry (taken from my cell phone).  I turned around in the car one day to find them sitting, holding hands, in their car seats, for no reason at all.  How I love these little (big?) boys.  :)

SIX

At 4:28PM today, Britton Kasey Garcia was no longer my favorite five year old. He now holds the title of "favorite six year old." :) Keeping with our annual tradition, we let him choose what he wanted to do with his special day. Past birthdays have included lunch at Red Robin, a visit to the Aquarium, going to work with Daddy, golf, the park, and bike rides. This year he raised the bar a bit with a request for Eskimo Joe's, in Stillwater. Weird as we are, we all love a good road trip, so we were happy for the excuse to visit the best school in the country. :) We headed out for lunch on this beautiful day (I say that b/c if you read last year's post, you'll remember there was a ridiculous amount of snow on the ground) and made it to Joe's. It was busy as usual, but the wait was short, and the server made his day with an extra special ice cream sundae for the birthday boy.

Back at home, we hit the neighborhood park where the boys played and played. After opening presents, we ate his special birthday dinner - spaghetti, as requested - and had homemade birthday cake. I think it was a great day for all of us!

So a little about BK this year... We've now lost 2 teeth, he loves Kindergarten, playing soccer, basketball, and gymnastics, and keeps us laughing with his antics. His latest is the imitation of "Peggy" the man/woman on the credit card commercial (see it here). It's hysterical and he does it perfectly. I think we have finally broken 40 lbs, and he's actually about average for height (shocking for this family, I know). He's become quite the reader and we are so very proud of him in every way. I love my little man more than words, and he'll always hold a very special part of my heart as my firstborn.

And for those wondering, for some reason this year was much easier on me than last year. It's still sad that my sweet little peanut is growing up WAY TOO QUICKLY, but I love what each new age brings.

Lunch at Joe's:
PJ and his mini-me:

Celebrating at home (Please excuse my Mr. Roger's jacket. It was cold in my house today!)

ETA: At his 6 year check-up, he weighed in at 40.2 lb, which is in the 15th percentile (Hey, we are so thrilled to be over 40 lb finally), and 45 inches tall (45th %)!  YAY for an "average" height kiddo in our family!

Graham

Meet Graham, our sweet little houseguest for the weekend!

I heard from one of Leyton's preschool teachers that the Animal Rescue here in town does a foster program for Christmas for the animals. Obviously they come in to feed and let them out over the holiday weekend, but I'm sure the time they spend there is less than during normal hours. The foster program looks for families willing to take a doggie home for a few days and give them a warm bed and loving family for Christmas. I'm a sucker when it comes to animals (they truly have my heart - especially those that don't have a "forever" family), so we decided to participate. We've really been trying to teach the boys about giving to others this holiday season in a variety of ways - giving time, money, and love, and this was a wonderful opportunity to help a sweet dog.

I WISH we could keep him. He really is the sweetest little guy (and by little I mean a bit smaller than mimi - he's part german shepherd, part lab) - potty-trained, playful, crate-trained (for nighttime and when we are away - didn't hear a peep out of him last night, and he was in our room), and gets along well with Mia. But that's the problem, right? So Mimi has been the princess around here for the last 8.5 years. She is a member of our family in every way and we love her dearly. I worry that by allowing another doggie to join this late in the game is unfair to her... Not to mention the costs of TWO dogs - food, vet visits, etc.

So he's supposed to be returned on Monday. I've already told PJ he's going to have to do it. I would absolutely lose it if I had to, and I'm still going to cry here at home. But if any of you out there in blog-land are looking for a wonderful new addition to your family - go see Graham. He's perfect. :)

And do me a favor and say a little prayer for sweet Graham. He deserves his own wonderful forever family.

Merry Christmas!

...from our family to yours!

And stay tuned for an introduction to a very special guest in our home this weekend... I'll post that tomorrow. :) Nothing like a little suspense, right?

the many hats of the garcia's

I realized as I was flipping through the camera that PJ and I wear a ton of weird stuff just to entertain the boys. And generally we forget about it, and end up walking around like that for hours. Case in point...

Mickey Mouse Ears. Leyton wanted me to wear the ears, so of course I did. Too bad this picture was about an hour after he went down for his nap and PJ noticed I still had them on (and I had no idea why he was taking my picture until I went back flipping through the camera)... Good thing I hadn't gone to Target yet - that would have definitely gotten me some strange looks.

And there is just no way to explain this next picture. Doesn't he look so very manly in his headband and pink dish gloves? Should I mention the "headband" is a piece of his flannel pants he had just cut off (b/c apparently he prefers flannel shorts)? He and the boys decided it would help our respective football teams win (GO BRONCOS). This was taken about 1 1/2 hours after the boys were in bed one night....

Oh, and no, it didn't work. The Broncos are 3-11 this season if anyone cares. It's breaking my heart. But we're playing for draft position at this point - at least that's what I'm telling myself...
